Barcelona has a thriving gay community, and a number of eclectic and chic bars and clubs open not just on Friday and Saturday nights but all week round!

If you're gay, visiting the city, and you're looking for a great venue to have a drink, dance the night away, or make new friends, here's a list of our favorite must-see gay-friendly places.

The Barcelona Gay Scene

You've just arrived in Barcelona, and you know the city is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and famous attractions. Luckily, this massive metropolis is also one of the most progressive in the world.

Spain has, in fact, taken several steps toward becoming an incredibly inclusive country.

For example, same-sex marriage is legal, gay couples can adopt kids, and gay men can serve in the military. There are also robust laws against hate speech and work discrimination.

If you're visiting in June, you're in for a treat, as Barcelona holds a massive LGBT festival + pride parade where the community comes together for celebrations, entertainment, live performances, culture, and sport - all in a fun atmosphere like no other.

But no matter when you arrive in Barcelona, you will find something to do. And after a day of exploring the city, it's time to hit the bars! So, what are your options?

The Best Gay Bars in Barcelona

The majority of Barcelona's best clubs are in Gaixample, the prime gay district and the place to be if you're looking for a unique escapade.

There are also a few clubs, such as Arena Group and City Hall, and Axel Hotel, that hold regular gay and lesbian parties.

In this article, you will find everything from a small club with a relaxed environment and cheap drinks to a thunderous gay bar dance floor with a dark room, drag queen shows, and a popular gay sauna. So, let's explore the top local options!

Barcelona Plata Bar

Barcelona Plata Bar

Plata Bar is a fun and elegant gay cocktail bar in the Gaixample district, a 3-block area north of Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes (between the Universitat and Urgell metro stations).

This funky bar is one of the best in Barcelona and has a sun terrace, perfect for looking at men while sipping a cocktail.

Everyone is welcome to spend a night of drinks and fun with friends, though! You can go solo, in a couple, or as part of big groups.

Address: Carrer del Consell de Cent 233, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Open from 7 pm.

BoysBar BCN

BoysBar BCN is a small yet modern and chic gay bar in the Eixample district, just near the Urgell metro station.

Something that sets this club apart is its shows, which change frequently but include strippers, go-go dancers, Latin boys, great music, and two immensely popular local DJs.

BoysBar also has a nice menu selection, served daily, awesome prices, and the friendliest staff. For drinks, we recommend you try the Mojito, probably the best in Barcelona!

Address: Carrer de la Diputació, 174, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Tuesday to Sunday. Happy hour every day until 11:30 pm.

GinGin Gay Bar

GinGin Gay Bar

GinGin is a well-known queer bar in the middle of the city (the neighborhood has actually been called Queerxample!).

It has a cozy cosmopolitan atmosphere and several spaces for rent, in case you're planning on having a party!

For the casual visitor, this bar offers live music, great drinks, and an interesting crowd where you won't have trouble making new friends.

Address: Carrer d'Aribau, 40, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Every day from 5 pm to 2:30 am (Fridays and Saturdays to 3:30 am).

La Chapelle Bar

La Chapelle actually prides itself in having not just an incredible atmosphere but also offering the best mojito in Barcelona.

This place, one of Barcelona's best gay bars, is relatively small - which makes it a perfect location to make easy contact with people standing in your aura.

The staff is also very friendly and the prices reasonable. Definitely, a must-see if you're around the neighborhood.

Address: C/ de Muntaner, 67, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Every day from 4 pm to 2:30 am (Fridays and Saturdays to 3 am).

Night Barcelona

Night Barcelona is a high-energy gay club open every day from 6pm. Ideally situated in a central area, this locale has become very popular for cocktails and cruising. And, if you visit on a Thursday, you'll be able to take advantage of its generous happy hour!

There are tons of drinks to choose from, all for great prices, plus friendly staff, good vibes, a dark room, and a mixed crowd of all ages. One important consideration, though: This is a 100% gay men-only bar!

Address: C/ de la Diputació, 161, Barcelona, Spain, 08015.Opening time: Every day from 6 pm to 2 am (Fridays and Saturdays to 3 am).

Moeem Barcelona

Moeem is a safe cultural space in the central Eixample neighborhood of Barcelona and a great place to share great cocktails with friends.

This friendly bar has been open for over nine years, a time in which it's become a classic alternative venue. You can also book this well-known bar for your own private events, all for quite a competitive price.

Address: C/ de Muntaner, 11, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Every day from 6 pm to 3 am.

El Cangrejo Eixample

El Cangrejo is a small but popular gay bar with good music (usually a mix of dance and latin). Most people, typically a slightly younger crowd, go here to dance - so keep in mind it might be rather loud.

Another important consideration is that the place only opens on Fridays and Saturdays at 10:45, and you might have to queue for a few minutes.

Address: C. de Villarroel, 88, Barcelona, Spain, 08011.Opening time: Fridays and Saturdays from 10:45 pm to 3 am.
